The Kimpton EPIC sits at the convergence of the Miami River and Biscayne Bay in downtown Miami — walking distance to PAMM, Frost Science, Bayside Marketplace, and across the bridge to Brickell's food and bar scene. A purpose-built 54-story tower (the residences occupy floors 1-15; the hotel takes 16-54) it's a clear step up from typical downtown business hotels.
The 16th-floor rooftop pool has views straight up Biscayne Boulevard and is one of the city's quieter sunset spots — fewer scenesters than the South Beach rooftops, more like a sophisticated locals' bar. Rooms are large by downtown standards (450-550 sq ft typical, 1000+ for suites) with floor-to-ceiling windows facing either the bay (premium) or river/skyline (still excellent).
Area 31 (the rooftop restaurant) is excellent for sustainable seafood and the lobby's Drinkhouse Fire & Ice Bar serves the best happy-hour mojitos in downtown. Both are popular with non-guests, so reservations recommended weekends.
Best Miami hotel for travelers who want central location without paying South Beach prices, or for those splitting time between downtown business and bay-area leisure. Rooms typically $250-400 weekdays, $350-550 weekends in season. The bay-view rooms are the upgrade worth paying for.
